2022 was a rocky mess for us. Breakage in 2021 ran into the supply chain COVID mess, leaving us with just two major events, at which we broke at both of them. The RX-8 experiment ended at the Time Trials Nationals with an exploded clutch, and the Probe’s post-rebuild debut was marred by an oil line failure.
On top of that, we moved to a new house. We’ve been busy.

The RX-8 is long gone, and the Probe’s oil lines have been replaced with professionally made 5000psi rated units. We’ve also sold the old house, which frees up the cashflow to go racing again in 2023.
Without futher ado, here’s our tenative 2023 major event schedule:
Date | Event | Location | Series |
March 10-12 | Optima Search For the Ultimate Street Car Round 2 | NOLA Motorsports Park, Louisiana | USCA |
April 21-23 | Pine Mountain Hill Climb | Pine Mountain State Park, Kentucky | SCCA |
April 29-30 | Great Lakes Division Points Event | NCM Motorsport Park, Kentucky | SCCA |
May 5-7 | Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car Round 3 | Laguna Seca, California | USCA |
June 16-17 | UMI Muscle on the Mountain | UMI Motorsports Park, Pennsylvania | UMI |
August 11-13 | Optima Search for the Ultimate Street Car Round 6 | Daytona International Speedway, Florida | USCA |
September 4-8 | 50th Annual Solo Nationals | Lincoln Air Park, Nebraska | SCCA |
October 12-15 | Time Trials Nationals | NCM Motorsports Park, Kentucky | SCCA |
You’re reading that right. Laguna Seca and Daytona International. We’re going to make the three day tow to California to put a Ford Probe onto the famous race track. The Daytona event is apparently going to be run at night under the lights, which could be exciting.
2023 is also the year for the 50th SCCA Solo Nationals. This is a historic event, and we’re going, even if we have to take a rental car.
This is a challenging schedule. We likely will break and have to miss some of these events. What’s not on there is a possible trip back to SEMA for the Optima Invitational. The OSUSC series this year only requires two qualifying events to score points towards the big show, and we hope to hit three.
What we don’t have a good opportunity for is testing on the Probe before the NOLA event. Fingers crossed some local autocrosses happen in late February. The Columbus Sports Car Club usually has an event around that time we’ll try to get to, plus as many street miles as we can manage.
